About
Who are we?

Pet Care Hubs is a grassroots initiative founded and operated by a small team, with community moderators based across multiple cities. We are a UK-registered company, based in London, working to build a network of trusted, local WhatsApp groups that help pet owners share advice, lost & found alerts, ethical services, and everyday support.

The idea is simple: pets thrive when their caregivers do, and we believe that starts with kind, community-powered spaces.

We launched our first Pet Care Hubs in Portugal and the Ireland in 2023 and now run hubs across Lisbon, Dublin, London, Barcelona, and Algarve. The project continues to be led with the support of a small team and rotating group of volunteers passionate about ethical pet care, digital communities, and accessibility.

We are not a charity, and we do not receive external funding. Our long-term model is supported by optional, ethical partnerships with local pet care businesses but our hubs will always remain free for pet owners, and moderated by trusted volunteers.

Volunteering with Us

Volunteering with Us

Volunteering with Pet Care Hubs is entirely optional and unpaid.

  • Our roles are remote, flexible, and time-limited. Each term lasts 3 months.

  • Volunteers are not expected to be available at all hours and can step back at any time.

  • We do not charge volunteers to participate, and their contributions are never monetised.

  • While we currently receive no external funding, we sustain the project through partnerships and not from volunteers or community members for access.

  • Volunteers are essential to keeping the hubs free, safe, and community-led both now and in the future.

🔎 Safeguarding & Integrity

• Moderators are expected to uphold our community guidelines, maintain respectful dialogue, and step in when necessary to keep conversations safe and on-topic. • If a moderator’s behaviour risks the safety, trust, or reputation of the project, we reserve the right to end the volunteer relationship. • Any complaints or reports will be handled discreetly and fairly by our core team.

Your Safety, Privacy & Support

All Pet Care Hubs are hosted on WhatsApp, and as a volunteer moderator, you will use your own personal WhatsApp number to help manage group conversations.

We do not ask you to download additional tools or share any private login details.

To help protect your privacy and give you peace of mind while moderating, we recommend the following WhatsApp settings:

  • Notifications: We suggest turning off notifications for the group(s) you moderate to avoid burnout or overload.

  • Who Can Add You to Groups: Set to “My Contacts” or “My Contacts Except…” to limit unwanted group adds.

  • Profile Photo Visibility: Set to “My Contacts” or “Nobody” if you prefer not to display your photo to all group members.

  • Read Receipts & Last Seen: Feel free to manage these settings however you’re most comfortable. Moderators are not expected to reply in real-time.

You will receive full onboarding, including guidance on moderation tone, example messages, and what to do in tricky situations.

If anything ever feels unclear, unsafe, or overwhelming — you’re not alone.

All moderators are given access to our core team’s direct contact, available 24/7 for support, check-ins, or to step in if needed.

We’re a small, compassionate team, and our first priority is your wellbeing.
